AISI 4130 tubing is mainly made from carbon, chromium, and molybdenum; controls of carbon, chromium, and molybdenum include approximately 0.28-0.33% carbon, 0.80-1.10% chromium, and 0.15-0.25% molybdenum, among other trace amounts of manganese, silicon, and phosphorus. The mechanical properties of AISI 4130 include a tensile strength of 560-700 MPa, yield strength of 460-580 MPa, and elongation of 25-30%. The alloy has very high toughness, excellent fatigue resistance, and pretty good weldability, making it very suitable for high-stress applications, aerospace, automotive, and structural applications, where strength-to-weight ratio becomes critical.
