Typically, EN 9 steel contains between 0.50–0.60% Carbon, 0.70–1.00% Manganese, along with trace elements of Silicon, Sulfur, and Phosphorus. This unique composition ensures a solid balance of strength and machinability, offering a tensile strength of around 600–800 MPa in its normalized state, which can be significantly enhanced through hardening and tempering processes. EN 9 can be heat-treated to achieve a high surface hardness, making it ideal for parts that experience wear. However, due to its carbon content, welding can be tricky, so it’s important to use proper preheating and post-weld treatments.
